In Each Other’s Arms

Bollywood Style wedding photography

While the idea as such is not unique, the setting can make all the difference. A low light shot, in a romantic setting, with the couple both dressed in gorgeous traditional outfits, and in each other’s arms – this is one to melt hearts of anyone who sees it, and one you’ll cherish always. A blurred backdrop can add to the beauty of the photo.

Carrying the Bride

While the traditional way is to carry the bride such that she is lying in the groom’s arms,  for a memorable click, the groom can just lift the bride – off her feet, with her hands resting on his shoulders while they both sport big smiles, or laugh – a carefree, cheerful pose.

Quirky Poses

Unusual props can add a fun element to your pose – a bicycle, a vintage car, bride in traditional outfit accessorized with oversized sunglasses, photographs of each other as babies or infants, funny placards – whatever appeals to you.

Colourful Smoke Bombs

Using color bombs make for interesting pictures – vibrant and beautiful; here the couple can have a simple normal pose, just holding the color bombs which emit plumes of vibrant colors that render a unique look to your photo.

Bollywood Style

The most romantic Bollywood songs are picturized in the rain; so why not one for you guys? Nothing is more romantic than standing under one umbrella, and staring lovingly into each other’s eyes – soft lighting, and a few drops on the forehead will add to the drama. You can also try and recreate some other scenes from famous romantic songs, or the ones that you love.

 Blind Folding the Groom

It is tradition that the groom not see the bride in her wedding dress before the wedding. For a special memory, have a picture taken where the bride covers the groom’s eyes from behind, just before revealing her dress. The anticipation is sure to give interesting expressions on the groom’s face. In fact, this can become a starting point for the story-telling of your big day.

The First Look

This is the natural progression after blindfolding – the camera crew will be all set to capture the groom’s reaction when he sees the bride for the first time in her wedding gown or outfit. You can even have multiple clicks taken in quick succession – from long shots to closeups of the couple.

Lying on the Grass and/or Under a Tree

Weather permitting, this can be playful and romantic at the same time; you can pose with one of you resting your head in the other’s lap, or lying down parallelly with heads touching, and faces looking in opposite directions. Try with eyes open as well as closed, and select the one you like best.

First Dance

This is obviously a very important ritual in a wedding, and you should certainly capture it. The photographer can take rapid burst photos – after all, one never knows which particular pose will appeal to the couple! If the venue has a balcony or upper floor from where the photo can be taken, it will add even more pizzazz to the photo – like an arial shot. It will certainly make a wonderful contribution to your wedding album.

Dramatic Wide Angle

The couple can pose outdoors, in a scenic location, where the photographer can take a beautiful wide angle shot. The outdoor location can be woody, fields, beach, rocky area, or the desert – take your pick! One of the best poses would be the couple standing facing each other, holding hands, sharing a joke; one of you can also pose as laughing, throwing the head back. It will make for a beautiful image. Make sure it is taken from a distance, as that gives the best effect.

The Hand Kiss

From childhood, we’ve read in fairy tales how the handsome prince kneels down to kiss the hand of the beautiful princess he saved. Well, why not recreate the fairytale magic? It never gets old, and shows the deep bond of affection between the couple.

Female Proposal

Be the modern go-getting woman; have the bride propose, on one knee; it will make for a very different, and memorable wedding album photo for sure.

Say Cheers!

Have the couple clinking their wine glasses at the wedding reception photography for a fun-filled and lively picture; the reception is a time when everyone is more relaxed as all the formal rituals are completed, and everyone is looking to enjoy and have a good time.

Relaxed Gaze

It’s important to capture the love and intimacy of the couple on their big day – and what better way to do that than having them pose in a relaxed manner, just gazing into each other’s eyes? A casual sitting pose with the bride leaning in to the groom resting his arm on his knee, while they chat, unaware of the rest of the world. Bliss!

The Walk

Any attractive outdoors space in a rural or urban area can be used as a natural and comfortable setting for this shot; from beaches to city streets, a casually dressed couple holding hands and walking (giving a candid wedding shot appearance) while smiling and being happy in love, will make for a great picture that you’ll cherish for years to come.

Use The Weather

We mentioned the rains as a Bollywood pose – but you can use other elements of the weather: a sunny day picture, with oversized hats and dark glasses and summery outfits, with the groom shielding the bride from the harsh sun; a windy day, with hair and the dress billowing out, can be pictured with the groom wrapping his bride in his arms to protect her, and so on. You can build on these ideas – after all it’s your big day.

Shadows and Silhouettes

This can make for a unique and unusual shot. Umbrellas, light backdrops, sheets, curtains, and mirrors can be used to create dramatic shadow or silhouette effects – and shooting this picture at night or in a darkened room will add to the effect. It could be a simple pose of the couple holding hands at arm’s length.

Frame It

A huge photo frame within which the couple pose, also makes for an excellent and memorable photograph. You can try shooting several pics from various angles and choose the ones that look the best. You can choose from a variety of frames – antique, ornate, sleek, and of different shapes – oval, rectangular etc.

The Shoulder Rest

Ask the bride to relax on the shoulder of the groom. If taking a wide-angle shot, make sure her train is stretched out behind her. Or, if you decide to take a close up, soften the look of the shot with backlighting from natural light.
